Legal translation course

 

Ukraine-Europe Linguistic Centre offers the intensive Legal Translation Course (English-Ukrainian / Russian language pair).

 

Course duration: 10 classes (20 classroom hours). Course completion is formally certified.

 

The course is intended to raise professional awareness of students in the issues of legal translation, basic theoretical background, translation patterns, communicative aspects of legal translation as well as basic professional vocabulary. The course programme is designed on the basis of complex development of legal translation skills within the framework of grammatical, lexical (terminological), syntactic and stylistic competences. 

 

Among other subjects, the course covers the following topics:

  • general translation theory basics (transformations, equivalence, main approaches, intermediate translation models, etc.);
  • competence of a corporate documents translator;
  • linguistic aspects of legal translation (background information role, prevalence of regular equivalents, limited context);
  • legal translation techniques and devices, including ready-made speech clichés usage;
  • specifics of translation of a power of attorney and a certificate of incorporation;
  • specifics of translation of a memorandum and articles of association of the company;
  • specifics of translation of minutes of the general meeting of shareholders of the company, names of positions, abbreviations, name and address of the company;
  • specifics of translation of an agreement / contract, supplementary agreement / annexes and legal acts;
  • specifics of translation of other documents, including business correspondence with clients;
  • legal translation difficulties and translators` typical mistakes.
